Rapid Review: Masayuki Akamatsu’s Banner.

We first saw Banner [App Store] appear on the store back in late July. Since then banner was renamed to ‘Banner Free’ [App Store] signaling to pretty much the entire world the developer was gearing up to launch a charged version, and on Friday, that’s exactly what Masayuki Akamatsu (the developer) did.

.

Akamatsu is not new to the store, by any means. He/she has brought you to likes of Alarm Free [App Store] as well as the simple audio generator Oscillator [App Store] and other various useful, pretty unique titles.

Banner
Ever seen those scrolling LED panels? – Well Banner is a customisable one of those, for iPhone. Unlike ‘Banner Free’, Banner is priced at just 59p, and offers extensions to what is available in Banner Free. These include:

- Enter five messages and have them scroll across the screen sequentially or individually.
- You can now select from 6 different styles of banner and LED representation
- Adjust the scrolling speed of your banner
- Double tap option for opening editor, as to avoid accidental opening.

Ok, yes, it’s gimmicky, but a great party trick and I must say it is very well implemented and designed.
Banner takes full advantage of the gorgeous 3.2″ (160 ppi) LCD screen we all know and love, on the iPhone.

Overall
Banner is great fun as well as visually stunning,
and at 59p, not many would argue it’s value.

Just a quick update to explain the scarce updates to the blog recently. We are in the process of moving off WordPress’ server’s and onto our own self hosted web space. Now the move is actually complete, but the blog is far from ready. We have a great premium blogging theme in mind, and hopefully you’ll like it too!

In this first installment of the series, we see Bill Gates visit a low-discount shoe store, with Jerry following shortly after him. Microsoft says the ads are part of a new $300 Million advertising campaign aimed solely at striking back at Apple’s smug
“Get a Mac” ads.

To me, the ad said nothing about Vista, Windows or Microsoft, and some people think that the sheer fact this ad actually aired, proves Microsoft are getting desperate.

I recently blogged about the possibility of Apple unveiling a new option to buy your music from iTunes, dubbed iTunes Unlimited. Unfortunately, according to sources within CNet, Apple will not be introducing an iTunes subscription service next week.

“My sources say that they don’t expect Apple to announce anything to do with music content, and they are sure Apple won’t be rolling out an iTunes music subscription service.”

According to the source, Apple just haven’t setup those deals with the record labels yet, for it to be a viable option. This rumor was revived after a claimed transcript of events was broadcast to several sites.

By now, I’m sure you’ve all heard of the huge mechanical critter to invade Liverpool, but if you haven’t, a french company has created and brought over a 50ft (15m) high mechanical spider (pictured above) for a five-day piece of street theatre in the UK city of Liverpool.

The giant mechanical spider, named “La Princess” appeared overnight to the shock of Monday morning commuters. Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to be in Liverpool this coming weekend, to witness the creature finally come to life. Liverpool is staging this event as part of ‘European Capital of Culture’.

Don’t panic — Everything is fine ..

Currently, this blog is hosted at wordpress.com, now for some reasons this is great, for others, not so great. We are looking at the possibility of moving the entire blog off wordpress.com’s servers and placing it onto self-hosted webspace. This will allow us to create custom CSS themes, as well as install and apply plugins which will enhance your overall blogging experience!

Trentiles one of our editors, has kindly offered some web space he is holding for this very purpose (Thanks Chris!). Once we decide to give it a go, we’ll be down for an hour or so, but then will return hopefully with a new look.

It’s all very exciting as I’ve recently spoken to WordPress support and they’ve informed me of the processes needed to transfer the blog ‘as-is’. If successful, we’ll have a proper .com or co.uk domain name, and razorianfly will look and function as it does now.

We’ll be letting you know where and when, and how it will affect you, if at all.
