ALERTWE’VE MOVED TO RAZORIANFLY.COM

I’ve been waiting on this package for quite some time, but today it finally arrived, Dreamweaver CS3. Now, I know the basis of HTML, but nothing fancy, so my intention is to master how to use it, and hopefully it will be a good web development tool to have in the future!

If anyone has any tips to get me started, feel free to shoot me at razorianfly@gmail.com
I’ll be sure to let you know how I get on with it, in the future weeks and months to come.

iPhone 2.1 to Hit Today? – [Updatedx2]

ALERTWE’VE MOVED TO RAZORIANFLY.COM

[Update - 01.09.08] – (21.29pm)

This information was false, we apologise for publishing it.
The time now is 21.30pm GMT, Apple did not release 2.1 today.

Original Article:
NickSpohn of Mac Rumors, recently pointed out a previous trend in Apple software releases, which could suggest they are now gearing up to release the next revision of the iPhone 2.0 software, version 2.1, later today.

He notes:

Based on last years firmware updates, and now this years, I think it is safe to say that 2.1 should be released September 1st, or the first week of September. If you notice with the 2.0.x updates:

2.1 – September 1st – Monday
2.0.2 – August 18th – Monday
2.0.1 – August 4th – Monday

Which were 2 weeks apart exactly, and i doubt was just a random coincidence.
Take it with a grain of salt if you wish.

Nick’s thinking is that as Apple released 2.0.2 for iPhone on Monday August 18th 2008, and that that is exactly 2 weeks today, Apple could be gearing for another release today. Not only that, if you look at the gap between the release of iPhone 2.0.1 and 2.0.2, this is also exactly 2 weeks. Coincidence?

Software releases for iPhone and iPod touch lines are usually released to the public between 10-12am EST (6-8pm GMT) – Meaning if the rumor is true, we still have a couple of hours to go. As stated by Nick himself, this is a shot in the dark based on previous trends in release, and should not be taken as gospel, just yet.

iPhone: “I call the mother-ship when I don’t recognise an application your running …”

Apples new firmware is calling home, periodically.

Apple's new firmware is calling home, periodically.

ALERTWE’VE MOVED TO RAZORIANFLY.COM

According to iPhone Atlas, Apple are readying a remote system for blacklisting applications on the iPhone.

If true, Apple has setup a system where, through the 2.0 software, iPhone will call home (to Apple) through a specialised call-back URL. The URL is enlisted deep within the iPhone 2.0 firmware, and looks like this:

https://iphone-services.apple.com/clbl/unauthorizedApps

According to Jonathan Zdziarski, author of the book ‘iPhone Open Application Development’:

“This suggests that the iPhone calls home once in a while to find out what applications it should turn off. At the moment, no apps have been blacklisted, but by all appearances, this has been added to disable applications that the user has already downloaded and paid for, if Apple so chooses to shut them down.

“I discovered this doing a forensic examination of an iPhone 3G. It appears to be tucked away in a configuration file deep inside CoreLocation.”

Yes – This suggests Apple have the power to cut off usage to applications you’ve previously bought, remotely, from your 2.0-running device, if they so choose.

Scary stuff.

Radius: The Only Spherical Thriller, for iPhone.

Radius for iPhone by Pattern Making Co.

Radius for iPhone by Pattern Making Co.

ALERTWE’VE MOVED TO RAZORIANFLY.COM

A new spherical action title has hit the store. It’s Radius [App Store] by Pattern Making Co.

Basic Concept
The aim of the game is to defend your sphere from enemies which land on it’s surface. The faster you tap and rotate the sphere the more you gain. The sphere has life which can be damaged, due to attacks, but also your reaction time.

Enemies attacking the sphere.

Gameplay
The sphere can be rotated easy by flicking and swiping your finger. This interface makes the game what it is. It actually gets quite frenzied the more time enemies are given to invade the sphere. Further into the game enemies can split off into multiple moving targets. You must catch them before they also try the attack. Killing an enemy is as simply as taping on it. Future enemies will progressively get harder as they develop different personalities and dependencies, some even requiring multiple taps.

Health
Your health meter resides around your sphere. This will be damaged by your reaction time towards the enemies and by attacks from these enemies. Your health recharges if you avoid enemy attacks for long enough.

Power-ups
Every so often, power-ups will appear on the surface of the sphere. To active their abilities, just tap them. Use power-ups to try and beat your previous score and re-gain health and time penalties.

Stubborn Enemies try to blow up half of your sphere.

Visuals
Again, a very strong layout and user interface for this type of game. Radius looks professional, and as with previous titles I’ve reviewed, radiates a well thought out, unique action title for iPhone.

This is what happens when your sphere explodes.

This is what happens when your sphere explodes.

Price Point
Priced at £0.59, why are you still here reading this?! – Radius is a S.T.E.A.L
(Originally priced at £2.49)

Downsides
The application is extremely unstable on 2.0.1 (in my experience). Crashes are frequent.

In Summary
Radius is a great title for iPhone, offering fast-paced action throughout the entire game. In a future update though, I’d like to see even more graphic feedback especially with the enemies and sphere itself. Possibly small graphic explosions when killing enemies? – and some sort of magical mist when activating powerups? – There just needs to be something graphical, which says to the user, ‘I’ve activated that’ or ‘I’ve killed that’.

Rating: 7/10 (A Good/Fun Title!)

iTunes 7.7.1 – “Sorry, I can no-longer Update your Applications. GoodBye.” – [Updatedx2]

Sorry, I just had to.

Sorry, I just had to.

ALERTWE’VE MOVED TO RAZORIANFLY.COM

[Updatex2] – 13.08.08 (9.33am)

Interestingly, the latest security fix for Mac OSX Leopard has completely resolved all update procedure issues with iTunes and iPhone.

Go figure?

[Update] – 06.08.08

- iTunes has now started displaying MULTIPLE versions of each update when accessing the update section of iTunes. Also to note, I can no longer download any applications (never mind update them), to my iPhone through the App Store. I get an alert to the effect of:

“iTunes is unable to download these applications. These applications will be available once you connect to iTunes”

Original Article:

So, whats the problem? – iTunes 7.7.1.

The recent update pushed by Apple. After updating to it, many users are now reporting serious problems with the application update system, including me. I’ll walk you through what we’re experiencing as iPhone and iPod touch users;

Firstly, If you don’t have an iPhone or iPod touch – thank you for bothering to even read this article!

Now, normally, whenever iTunes gets word there’s an update for an application you already have in your library, iTunes notifies you pushing a little badge notification beside ‘Applications’ on the left pane.

Rather like this:

iTunes showing that 5 applications need updating.

iTunes showing that 5 applications need updating.

Prior to iTunes 7.7.1, iTunes coped with these updates, flawlessly. When clicked, the user was brought to a page displaying the exact amount of updates needed, and the relevant buttons required to purchase or download these updates, for the applications in question.

Normally clicking the 5 Updates Available link brings you to 5 updates.

Normally clicking the '5 Updates Available' link brings you to 5 updates.

This is no longer the case – I too clicked to the ‘update’ link today, expecting 5 new updates, as quoted.
The number of updates that were actually displayed, was quite a bit different to 5.

iTunes showing 97 updates are available, after quoting 5.

iTunes showing 97 updates are available, after quoting 5.

97. Yes – 97 application updates. To get a jist of this problem, that’s every application I currently own, in my library. So I say, Ok – I’ll download them, as they must be newer versions of what I already have – right? – Erm, No. What actually happened was iTunes 7.7.1, gracefully, ‘Updated’ all my applications (both bought and freely downloaded) in my library to a previous version. For example, it gracefully ‘Updated’ Sketches from v1.2 back to v1.1.

I’m not the only one experiencing this. I know this for a fact. There are hundreds upon thousands of people experiencing this, it’s featured all over the web. What did you change in iTunes 7.7.1 to make this system collapse?!

What is going on here Apple!? – I mean seriously. iTunes 7.7.1 has completely messed-up the whole updating system for mobile applications. The App Store is now worthless to me, ironically.

[I'd love to hear what you think about this - Drop me a comment below.]

Sort it Out.

[Update] – 04.08.08

Found Footage:

Original Article:

On my endless travels around the net, I came across this rather, extremely useful, plug-in for Firefox.

It’s called PicLens. Basically when you’ve installed it, it allows you to take a website, for example YouTube, Google, Amazon, Yahoo!, Flickr or Smug Mug – and render it’s contents into a huge, fully-interactive wall – Sound kool? – it gets better.

Effortlessly search popular sites.

Once you’ve found your picture, you can proceed to click and enlarge it from the wall.
Also to note, PicLens now supports VIDEO search and video playback from within PicLens!

What can I say - I just love Top Gear!
